History
The inception of Alice’s Jazz Project came about from the founder’s (Alice Fernbach) experiences of visiting her grandmother in a nursing home after she was no longer able to look after herself independently. Alice found the nursing home environment, although efficient, did not cater for the humanistic well-being of the residents in a way that idealistically, it should. The realisation that a large sector of the demographics artistic needs was being overlooked led to Alice – a professional music teacher – forming a group with other professional musicians, with the aim of bringing vitality and artistic stimulus into the lives of the residents of local care homes, for the benefit of all involved.
AJP see the musical shows as the beginning of a cultural initiative to bring back artistic meaning into the lives of care home residents and have a future view to creating further artistic projects which involve this section of society actively.
AJP regulars include; Nick Strong, a professional Jazz pianist and composer who graduated with a degree in music from the University of Brighton, has composed music for award winning films and has also played with the likes of Adrian Kendon, Robert Milner as a jazz musician . Alice Fernbach, the founder, has studied classical piano for over ten years and completed a diploma in Jazz at Chichester College and Joe Thomas who is currently studying Jazz Performance at Middlesex University.
